Flight Night Mid Year Ball

Round 2 action.

Rosellas drop second straight to start season

By Daryl Pitman

ST Paul’s East Bentleigh opened its account for the season when it eclipsed Cheltenham by 46 points in Sunday’s Anzac tribute game at Weatherall Road.

The Doggies appeared to be quicker around the ground and had multiple options up forward. Andy Taranto, Rohan Best and Paul Wheatley each bagged three goals.

Taranto’s yield should have been greater, given his share of the ball. Jarrod Rafferty and Paul Mercoulia generated constant drive from the midfield for St Paul’s, while Trent McIntyre did a sterling job on Cheltenham co-captain Ewen McKenzie.

Doggies coach Paul Howroyd was all smiles after the game and praised the performance of the youngsters in the team.

‘‘I was really pleased with our effort,’’ he said. ‘‘ Our younger players are fitting in well and are a breath of fresh air around the club.’’

The Rosellas battled hard to work their way back into the game. Ruckman Stephen Ott worked tirelessly, while James McCartney, Mick Falconer and Jarrad Martin also made valuable contributions.
