Dogs third quarter blitz sinks gallant Rosellas
By Daryl Pitman
The goals keep coming for St Paul's East Bentleigh forward Travis Ridgway.
The key forward's dream season continued with another nine-goal haul in the Doggies' 30-point win over Cheltenham at McKinnon Reserve on Saturday.
Ridgway has kicked 40 goals in the past four games with hauls of 11, 11, 9 and 9 to take his season's tally to 62.
The game was even poised at the long interval before the Doggies took it by the neck with a seven goals to one third term, with evergreen Robbie Prew, Tim Blackwood and the nimble Peter Mercoulia leading the charge.
According to Cheltenham coach Brett Shalders, the forward lines told the story of the game.
"Their forwards stood up and ours didn’t," he said
"We got it in there plenty of times but couldn’t convert.
We into our forward fifty 10 times early in the third quarter for no result and yet St Paul’s kicked seven goals for that quarter."
The Rosellas had winners in Adam Cole, who has been in red hot form since being moved into the centre, ruckman Sefa Mackinnon, onballer Mark Shalders and Jack Barclay on a wing.
